Celebrating America's 250th Anniversary: Jefferson R-VII School District 2025-26 Commemorative Logo
Patriotism meets education in this forward-looking address from Superintendent David Haug as Jefferson R-7 School District prepares for a momentous 2025-26 academic year. The excitement is palpable as Haug reflects on recent accolades that have positioned the district as a leader in civic-minded education.
The district proudly received dual honors last year—recognition from the Daughters of American Revolution for exceptional flag care practices across campus, and a commendation from the United States Army National Guard acknowledging the district's commitment to respectful partnerships. These relationships have blossomed into meaningful experiences for students, with National Guard members conducting team-building activities with PE classes and athletic teams. Such collaborations exemplify how community partnerships enhance educational experiences beyond traditional classroom settings.
Looking ahead, Jefferson R-7 is launching an innovative flag protocol education program in anticipation of America's 250th anniversary. Administrators Mr. Rouggly and Mr. Horn are spearheading this initiative to ensure students develop a deeper understanding of proper flag etiquette and care. The program will include specialized advisory sessions and the development of comprehensive educational materials available to both students and community members. To commemorate this historic national milestone, the district has created a special "United States of America 1776-2026" logo and commemorative pins that will be available at extracurricular events. Don't miss your chance to own this piece of history while supplies last—and join us in celebrating what promises to be an extraordinary year where patriotism and educational excellence converge to create meaningful learning experiences for our students!
Welcome to the 2025-26 school year. I'm Superintendent David Haug with the Jeffsner 7th School District, and it's this time of year, as we wrap up our summer preparation, that we anticipate all the great things our students are going to do this year, and we love to see how that unfolds. We kick off our school year and talk about how we're going to commemorate the year with our logo and pin, but before I do so, I'd like to talk about maybe how we became inspired to get to this point. Last year, we couldn't have been more proud to receive two distinct honors, the first one from the Daughters of American Revolution, specifically tied to how we honor and take care of our flags on our campus. That happened last fall and then last spring, I think, as part of our duties as administrators in Jefferson's R7 school district. As we work with our community partners, specifically those where our kids may be employed. We have and maintain great relationships, and so we were extremely honored and proud last year to have received a recognition from the United States Army National Guard for our commitment to treating them with respect when they come on our campus, and we take a lot of pride in this recognition they handed us last year at the end of the year. They've been a great partner to us and they come and do some team building activities with some of our PE class and some of our sports teams and we look to maintain that moving forward.
Speaker 1:The next question kind of became for us this summer is what can we do better? And as we brainstormed as an administrative group, mr Rugley and Mr Horn have taken the lead ona project this year that leads into the 250th year of our country to really have a better understanding for all students of how to take care of our flag and flag protocol. So they are currently collaborating with a group and we'll have that group later announced. They will come in at one of their advisory periods and work with both the middle school and the high school on how to proper flag care and then they will also develop a PDF format to send not only to our students but to our community for those rules and taking care of our American flag. So that's something we're looking forward to.
Speaker 1:And finally, I remember I don't remember I wasn't quite old enough in 1976 for the 200th year of our country, but I remember in the years following all the little mementos and stuff and I absolutely loved it. So, in order to celebrate our upcoming year, we have come up with a pin and a logo that states United States of America 1776 through 2026. We will have those as long as supplies last. We'll have those at our extracurricular events, but I'm really looking forward to the school year and everything it has to offer. Our country is great, our community is great, our school is great. I think there's no better way to celebrate it. Thank you.
